I just imagined the entire Damon dying/Elena finding a way to bring him back/Damon resurrecting thing.
First part is Damon dying and Elena crying by his side. “Elena, I- I want you to remember *sighs because he’s dying* me… and I want you to know that no one… no one has ever made me happier than you did… just remember that I loved you and that I always will.”
Then, Damon as a ghost tells Jeremy that he needs Elena to be brave and that he believes in her because if anyone can do it, it’s her and her only.
Lastly, Damon comes back to life. “Elena… you saved me.” and then Elena starts crying because he’s back and they cup each other’s faces and then they kiss and Damon says “Thank you.”

There are new season 4 promo pictures released (check ‘em out). I know that trying to find any sense whatsoever in those pictures might be a bit silly since those are just marketing pictures but still…
What first grasped my attention were the poses. Damon and especially Elena look like they were released from something (read: sire bond) and in comparison with the season 4 Latin pictures there are no more ropes in this one. Elena had her hands bound, now she looks like she’s free. However, Elena has a bracelet on her right hand and it oddly reminded me of a rope but it’s indeed a bracelet. One may say that this rope-like bracelet indicates the unbroken bond but I’m not sure if that theory has any chance of legitimacy. Maybe this rope-bracelet symbolizes some sort of “bond” that will stay between them, and by that I mean that Elena’s feelings for Damon won’t go anywhere, they will remain. As for Damon, if you remember, in the Latin picture his hands were like cupped and blood was sipping out of them and the picture says “Blood is guilt” (or “Blood is responsibility”, there are variants of translating that). Damon literally had blood on in his hands. Now blood is dripping off his (and Elena’s hands) as if Damon is no longer responsible, nor is he guilty.
So, looks like either the sire bond will be broken or Elena will turn back into human (or both) but Elena’s feelings for Damon will still remain after the bond is broken.
Stefan, on the contrary, looks very collected, he’s holding onto his jacket, he stands as if he turned his back on Elena a little bit (whereas Damon is closer to Elena and they stand like shoulder to shoulder). Stefan has no blood on his hands because obviously he’s not a part of the sire bond, he has no guilt. Also, there is no blood under him in contrast with Damon and Elena who have a lot of blood under them. And I’d like to emphasize the fact that Stefan isn’t released from anything, so he’s not relieved. If (as I’ve said) the bond is broken and/or Elena is indeed human again, Stefan doesn’t look like he attained his goal and freed himself from his own suffering (he wants to fix and unsire Elena, so once it happens he should feel relieved and free). This brings me back to the speculation I expressed earlier on: they will break the sire bond but Stefan won’t get what he wants, he won’t get Elena back.
The other thing I find interesting is that the trio stands in the water and the water is dripping off the walls. Water is something that purifies things, rids them from dirt, mud, blood, washes things off. This could also be a sign of the sire bond going away.
Also, if you look carefully, Elena’s not wearing her daylight ring whereas Damon and Stefan are wearing theirs. Most probably Elena won’t need hers because she might be human again.
And I’d like to say that the setting reminds me of a tomb and it might be about Silas’ grave but I wouldn’t get into that because frankly it’s just a setting.
