I think it’s safe to say that every Elejah shipper, or any Elijah fan in that matter, totally broke down to a pool of emotions when he said this. It’s not only about what he said, but it’s also about how vulnerable he is to the extent in sharing his thoughts with a girl, a human. With these words, you know that even after centuries of living, he is still struggling to cope with the burden of being a vampire. And Elena comes into his life, and he is finally realizing that there is still hope. That there is still beauty in humanity which makes him regret his monstrous ways. He knows that Elena would understand because after all they’ve been through, a deep and almost poignant connection has been made. Elijah has found comfort and reason with Elena. It’s almost heartbreaking in a way because her friends and even his OWN mother dislike/disliked him. If he loses his siblings, who’s left for him
