People, chill. Seriously. You all just freak out to damn freaking much about those darn spoilers. [WARNING! SPOILER AHEAD]

Here’s what the spoiler says: “Damon gets a new love interest in S4, not Stefan…” [X], Julie Plec @ MLC2.

Damon is in love with Elena. Damon loves Elena. She chose Stefan. “I thought I could win her from you fair and square. She didn’t want me.” That’s what’s happening in his head and that’s also the reason why he’s not going to be all whiny “oh, she chose Stefan, I’m just gonna cry here”. This is not Damon. Damon is not going to be pining for Elena anymore. He had a chance to be chosen and Elena didn’t choose him. The choice has been made and it’s (KIND OF) final. Damon is not going to try to change Elena’s mind or steal her from Stefan. For him the “I love him, Damon” was a verdict. It’s only natural of Damon to try to move on but stay by Elena’s side somewhere because she needs him as her friend. So, as for the character development and Damon’s specifics, giving Damon a new love interest is logical.

Damon’s new love interest is also a plot device. However serious things get (or seem to get) with the new girl, it will never get close to what Damon shares with Elena. He may like whoever the hell Julie makes him like but it will never be as strong as what he feels for Elena. For God’s sake, they can say “Damon falls in love with someone who is not Elena” and whatever they want but it will never be like his love for Elena. This new interest is a plot device to postpone Delena from finally happening for real.

Originally the story is about Elena falling in love with both brothers and being torn between them. Elena hasn’t even properly admitted her feelings yet, let along saying out loud that she’s in love with Damon. They haven’t even got together yet. The new girl isn’t a reason to worry. Given Damon got under Elena’s skin, given the new memories will as well get under her skin, given Elena is a vampire (and it’s in vampires’ nature to have heightened emotions), Elena is going to get superjealous. In addition to that, Damon is getting a love interest, not just a one-night stand with Rebekah or a sorority chick or a special friend or someone like Andy. Elena is getting very jealous. This may cause some dialogue between Elena and Caroline, for instance, and Caroline will say “I see the way you’re looking at her” and Elena will be like “What? What do you mean?” and Caroline will say “Elena, this is a look of jealousy” or something similar. 

Damon’s new love interest will be sort of an obstacle for Delena, the new girl will kind of help Elena realize that she loves Damon and seeing him with another girl will irritate her and Stefan will see it, he won’t be okay with it. 

Season 4 is probably going to be about Elena realizing her feelings for Damon and figuring out what love actually is and finally breaking up with Stefan and running after Damon. That’s the only road map for Delena that I actually see at the moment. 

Just don’t freak out, guys. We’ll survive this, we always survive. Our belief in Delena can never be shattered by some freak-ish spoilers. Let’s just wait for the episodes.
